~ Walk Alone ~

"We Almost Made It"

You walked with me, you were my friend
But your soul you could not share
You didn't tell me who you were
Although you said you cared.

I would have listened while you talked
Of your dreams and memories
But these were things you would not say
Nor wanted to share with me.

And even though you held my hand
And appeared to welcome me
As I approached near your heart
You wouldn't let me see.

I know the love is hidden there
Deep within your heart
But it is yours and yours alone
And with it you'll not part.

I have no more to offer you
I've given all I can
Any more and I would lose
All of who I am.

I did not know our walk would be
This short in time and length
Nor that the path would be so rough
For it's robbed me of my strength.

But now we'll have to walk alone
Each our separate way
And take the time to closely look
At what we've learned today.

Who will be the next to walk
Along the path with you?
And will she be the chosen one
To share in all you do?

Will she have the wisdom
To give her love to you
In such a style and such a way
That I just could not do?

And my friend, will she have
That very special key
To open up and peer inside
The heart that's meant for me?
